Wild and amazing view. I would have never imagined Oklahoma was like this, this area looks really impressive.

@Richard_Irwin: Due to Oklahoma's location near the center of the continent there are five major ecological and even more geological areas.. The Wichitas are in the southwestern part of the state and are a very old geologic feature. It's very dry but not desert. On the other hand directly to the east about 200 miles are mountains (Kiamichi)-- actually very big hills that are pine covered, and verdant.. In between them is yet a separate set of big hills called the Arbuckle mountains -- that may be even older. To the north is the great plains, to the northwest, the high plains, and to the northeast the crosstimbers and Ouchita mountains, we even have some salt flats and desert-like dunes... I don't have to drive far to get different scenery but spend most of my time walking around in the prairie and forest near my home... (In the crosstimbers)...
Oklahoma truly is "OK" with a variety of scenery (and what you've described above) like this so close at hand.

I've lived in OK for 12 years, stayed pretty much in the city and suburb (lived in BA, Wagoner County, worked in Tulsa, City Of) but never really ventured to see its natural beauty (regrets). This photograph is a classic, it's like a painting of a great landscape.
