Blue-eyed Mary, sports a lavender coloration. This is a closeup of a single flower. The plant blooms shortly after the earliest flowers and has bell-shaped flowers arranged in tiers around a central stem. As the display is quite pretty to the naked eye, it's very hard to capture a good photo of the entire plant configuration so I concentrated on a single bloom.
Nice shot.

Beautiful Earnest, I feel like I could almost reach into the screen and touch the petals, the textures and colour are wonderful.

I know what you mean about the overall impression of a flowering plant not easily lending itself to a photograph. It must be something to do with the three-dimensional space the plant takes up . . but you treat us to a lovely detail here.

@Ronnie 2¢: Yes, it makes the phrase... "You had to be there," ring true. Thanks.
There are some wildflowers down here that are constructed similar to what you have described. And you're right, it's quite difficult to adequately capture the whole blossom spike with the power that you get when seeing it with the eye. This is a great macro, Earnest. It looks a lot like a miniaturized orchid bloom.

@Eric Fry: Thanks and yes, I prefer to represent the beauty rather than the taxonomy.. Maybe that'll come later.
Superb Earnest. Great lighting and texture. I love the colour!
