This one was new to me. I am calling it prairie milkweed because that is most likely in this location but there is little difference in this and common milkweed. Bill Ault posted one recently (possibly common milkweed) that is rather prettier than this and an end-on photo of the flower. The leaves are of a silk tree, Albizia julibrissin, often called a mimosa tree in these parts. The silk tree is naturalized in this area and apparently can be troublesome in other areas of the U.S.

A great clear and sharp image, those petals look like claws.... dosent seem to bother the ants.

@Observing: I was pretty excited about this one until I found out how "common" it was --- new to me is exciting.
