Solitary Wasp on Mountain Mint

Feeding on the flowers of Narrow Leaf Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum tenuifolium). The plant's foliage is very minty and has a fantastic aroma.. Apparently it has medicinal uses as well as flavoring uses....

A Wasp....??? never seen a wasp that big or that color. However, this is a great photo of the insect, was it an early shot..?

@Observing: Yes, it was taken in the morning and insects seemed to be everywhere that day.

@amy: Actually she had some opportunities to nail me as I chased her from flower to flower but seemed pretty docile.. I'm man enough to take the punishment if I have too...:-)

Hi Earnest!...Beautiful shot! I believe that is a potter wasp. They make little clay pots to lay their eggs in. A fascinating wasp and a great picture!

@Barry: Thanks for the input, Barry. It might well be that type of wasp though much bigger than the tiny ones that used to build them on my house in Houston.
