This interesting wasp is feeding on white prairie clover. As of yet, I've not identified the wasp species.
Great macro, Earnest! That wasp is a new one to me, too.

@Bill Ault: Thanks, Bill... one of these days I'm going to research this one...
Great capture and composition, Earnest! When I first saw this photo, I thought it was a dragonfly. Definitely an interesting wasp.

@Steven: Yeah, this one is similar to what we call a dirt dauber but different.
Earnest... this shot is so clear and sharp it's as though I could touch it. Striking image.
Your wasp are unusual, here in the UK we have small brown and yellow wasps, a bit like a bee. I have seen ones like in your photo, but that was in Turkey, and they were mean critters...

@Observing: We have lots of different types. Personally I've never been stung unless I deserved it... As with most creatures if a person starts jumping around and waving their arms like a lunatic (my wife, haha) then one should expect them to become upset and attack. Thanks for the compliment!
Beautiful image!

Wow, that wasp is one mean looking guy. I have never seen one like that. The colors, the DOF and the detail are all amazing. Well done Earnest.

@Marion: She didn't threaten me but then I didn't yell and jump around as stated above... :-) Thanks much.
No idea about the name of this wasp Earnest, but what a great and crisp macro shot!
