Wild Lettuce

You won't find much leafage to eat on this plant unless you find it growing in the right spot but this is lettuce. This one has reddish tips to the petals. Another variety has pure yellow flowers... and yes it could be mistaken for a type of thistle as it might also have sharply pointed leaves.The flower is actually less than a centimeter.
