Cottonwood Borer

This beetle is about four inches long from tip of antennae to tail. He makes holes for his young ones in the wood with those jaws.

@Tim: Ha, ha... well I'm used to all sorts of things as I walk the woods all the time but this guy even intimidated me. I certainly didn't want him to mistake my thumb for a cottonwood limb as I tried to position him for a photo.
