DFS III

Posted by Earnest (Oklahoma, United States) on 25 January 2009 in Business & Industry.

This is a scan of a polaroid photo taken in Kentucky, not far from Paducah, in the 1970's showing one of the first sets of Texas Instruments Digital Field Recording systems -- DFS III. I was relatively new to the work force, learning to set all of these (and many more) switches for proper recording of seismic data. Digital systems were also new and this is before the development of massive integrated circuitry. If it broke we would repair it by replacing a discrete component or a simple IC that packaged a set of nand, nor, or, or inverter gates, that made up the digital logic. I was a junior member of the team and when not engaged in learning the system, contented myself by roaming the fields looking for fossils and arrowheads -- found a few too... After a successful hunt I often found myself in charge while my boss looked for these artifacts instead...

I hope you enjoyed the viewing... Have a great day!
