@Marilla: It does bear a startling similarity but not the color. Christel from Köln, GermanyGood morning Earnest, 21 Aug 2009 8:14am Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United KingdomSuch incredible markings on something a'fluttering by . . 21 Aug 2009 9:27am Nadia Olisa from Canberra, Australiaoh wow..the colours are amazingg..and they almost look like eyes on the butterfly!! pretty! :) 21 Aug 2009 11:18am @Nadia Olisa: The "eyes" are not coincidence -- apparently designed to scare off predators. Linda from Riga/Sigulda, Latviawhat a wing span. a very beautiful butterfly and i like how it is framed by the leaves 21 Aug 2009 11:55am Marion from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaI love your butterfly pictures. This is great. 21 Aug 2009 1:15pm Tracy from La Selva Beach, United StatesYou've made him look anything BUT common...This is a beautiful shot with perfect depth of field! 21 Aug 2009 7:22pm @Tracy: Thanks! Betty from New Jersey, United StatesDid you catch it in flight? Fantastic DOF and color! 21 Aug 2009 7:41pm lucid from Toronto, CanadaBeautiful colours and great timing, catching it with it's wings open! Where are you taking these photos? I usually only see moths about, and maybe a rare monarch. 21 Aug 2009 8:23pm @lucid: All of my recent shots were taken near the buttonbush, a plant that loves water and grows near lakes and streams. I is one of few plants that has blossoms that appeal to all sorts of nectar feeders and I just happened one day to come upon a bush in first bloom that was loaded with butterflies. I added photos for this series from another day and photographed some in outlying vegetation. Total shoot time about four hours... It was a great and fun experience. I live near (one could say in) the country and prefer nature photography above anything else so I have all sorts of subjects, wildflowers, insects, birds, etc to photograph. Steven from Chicagoland, United StatesBeautiful butterfly that you have captured here with nice framing and good DoF. Well done, Earnest! 22 Aug 2009 1:51am @Steven: Thanks very much!
