Migrating Sulphurs on Aster

I have had some extraordinary "luck" this year with butterfly photography mainly due to my alternate favorite subject, wildflowers. This was taken in the second week of October this year as the sulphurs migrated through... I'm slipping this one in just to give a glimpse of the October display. Otherwise, I've so many photos that they will be stacked well through November! I am of course very happy about this but apologize to you, if you get a little tired of these butterfly photos...

@Elora: Yes, these butterflies seem to populate the world and are a problem on some food crops like cabbages.

i love butterflies. they are hard to photograph, because they are (almost) always moving. i don't have the patience. it's a beautiful shot, earnest.

As small as they are, it's interesting how well the Sulphurs stand out among the asters. I will admit when I first saw your thumbnail image on my blogroll that you captured a photo with snow....whew!!

@Twelvebit: Sometimes this type of lighting is a real pain... keep trying.

In my case it was more of a background problem. The butterflies were about the same size as in your photo, but even three of them didn't stand out enough to make an effective image.

@Twelvebit: The lighting at the time of year these butterflies are migrating is a little difficult. I had great problems with contrast for some reason and even processing didn't help much. I know what problems you faced. Just keep snapping and try some different settings next time... I had lots of throwaways too!
