Springtime Delight

Wow...a stunning shot. You wonderfully filled the whole frame with this striking creature.

A lovely yellow swallowtail. I have seen very few this year so far, but it's early for us. We're gearing up for our annual "How to grow a Butterfly" experiment, but this year, we're going to try to grow Monarch's, which need milkweed, in addition to Swallowtails, which need parsley.

22 Apr 2010 10:19am

@Woody: When I was a boy in elementary school I once found some monarch caterpillars on milkweed and took them home and raised them.. I only fed them for two or three days before they spun cocoons... Didn't eat all that much either... a newly hatched (and dry) butterfly is a beautiful thing.

I went into a butterfly house this week and immediately thought of your wonderful images. The humidity in there made my camera unusable for the first 30 minutes and, after, that, I admired your work more with every failure !

22 Apr 2010 11:08am

@Ronnie 2¢: That is extremely kind of you to say. If you keep firing away you'll get some great shots but admittedly lots of them can be throw-away.

Good evening, Earnest,
It is really beautiful as well as the words below the picture. The brilliance of the colors of the butterfly is fantastic. The background and sun light supports the display and gives you, alive. The flower looks like lilac. 5 Stars ***** Have a nice evening and all the best.
